Aby was called to the Bar of Ontario in September of 2018. She earned her common law degree (JD) from the University of Ottawa and graduated with the Social Justice Option in June 2017. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts from Carleton University with a minor in law.
During law school, Aby volunteered with the National Council of Canadian Muslim (NCCM), a non-profit organization which challenges discrimination and Islamophobia, as well as with the Ticket Defence Program, a legal clinic for homeless or street-involved individuals. She is currently a Pro Bono lawyer with the Refugee Sponsorship Support Program, a program which offers direct sponsorship support and public information to Canadians seeking to sponsor refugees.
Aby clerked at the Federal Court of Canada for two consecutive years, in 2017-2018 and 2018-2019, with Justice Peter B. Annis and Justice Sébastien Grammond, respectively. It is during her clerkship at the Federal Court that she developed her strong interest for immigration law, although she had always been passionate about social justice and human rights.
Outside of work, Aby enjoys taking self-defence classes, watching tv shows, travelling and spending quality time with friends and family.
Aby is fluent in English and French.
